Owen was thinking of what he knew and how that might lead him to the treasure. Then he decided that they needed to get out of there, before the Mowatt gang found them and there was trouble. They decided that they were going to go back to the cabin, because the old man told them of the cover they would have there, and the things that Clive had done to the area before he died in case he was in trouble. As they were making their way back to the cabin, they accidentally rode right into the middle of Mowatt's camp. There were shots fired and chaos for a couple of minutes, and then they all barely got out of there. They made it back to the cabin, and they knew that the gang would be coming soon. While Owen was out scouting for the gang, he saw a few of them, then hurried back to the cabin. When he got there, everyone was gone, and there were some of the gang members in the trees trying to get him. While he was sneaking through the trees, he was caught, and they took him back to the camp. Mac brought him back to the cabin and Owen figured out where the treasure was. Owen got out of the cabin alive, but it was close, and when he got out, he took off after Marny. He found her, killed the man who had kidnapped her, and then they all met back at the cabin. They all went out to where the treasure was hidden, and inside the metal box was a parchment with some writing on it and a single small gold nugget. The Kernohans, Owen, and Marny all settled down in the area to live, and the old man went back up into the hills. "The problem with people," according to the old man, "is they make too much damn noise!"
